When I'm not sketching and drawing, I enjoy hiking and people watching in my spare time. Many of my pieces are directly influenced by studying people in their natural surroundings. I love recreating scenes and personalities in my paintings.
When I was in third grade, my teacher said someday I would be an artist. I don't know if that was a testament to my struggle in academics or because I doodled all the time. As I got older this love never faded and eventually I began to study art, particularly portraiture. I paint in oils and acrylics depending on the project.
I recently assisted a new author, John Ferguson, by illustrating his first book "Living Beyond PTS - Veteran's Path to Recovery Through Mind Nindra". The book is available on Amazon
When Frederick County Public Schools decided to build a new Aylor Middle School there was a conversation about having a portrait done for display in the office. No one knew I painted, so I volunteered to paint the portrait. This picture was taken at the dedication of the building and my portrait was approved for display.
I was commissioned to paint a departed pet as a Christmas present. I had never painted a pet before, but I sure enjoyed it! Painting Daisy was special. I'm glad it could bring joy to others.
Shenandoah Arts Council (shenarts.org) sponsors ArtScape each year. Artwork submitted by local artists is selected for display and sale at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. The art is then transferred to banners that grace the downtown area of Winchester, Virginia for a year. It's a great opportunity for us all.
